Excellent Opportunity for Berlin

Germany stands for rational decisions and a stable economy. It is synonymous with the transition to renewable energy and, as a car nation, could also play a particularly influential role in a transportation revolution. The aim should not be to alienate automotive manufacturers, but rather to help them adapt to the future.

We believe the federal capital can play an important role in pioneering new approaches to mobility. Berlin is traditionally a pedestrian city with relatively low car density compared to other cities in Germany. It boasts spacious Prussian boulevards and is greener than every other major European city – almost one third of Berlin’s surface area is unsealed. Furthermore, many of its districts are populated by young people who are open towards new kinds of mobility and frequently set new trends, which then spill over into other German cities. Add to this the steadily growing number of tourists flocking to Berlin each year, who draw inspiration from the city’s unique flair. Berlin and particularly the various districts along the U1 subway line offer the ideal conditions for a fresh model for urban mobility.

The current negotiation of the Berlin Mobility Act, which is set to pass later this year, represents an important step towards a whole new approach to mobility. In order to further promote cycling and to satisfy the current need for more cycleways, Berlin will invest a great deal of money to expand and improve infrastructure for cyclists citywide. Over and above these upgrades, the Radbahn would be an iconic achievement symbolizing this creative and livable city. It’s unique value can be summed up in just one sentence: the Radbahn is a covered cycling route right through the heart of Berlin!
