Types of Intersection along the Radbahn Route

The design of inner city nodes (intersections/junctions) requires careful attention, as they represent sites of potential conflict for all road users. The design principles of recognizability, comprehensibility, navigability and accessibility should all be prioritized to minimize cognitive overload. In the case of low traffic intensities, priority-controlled intersections/junctions can fulfill the tasks. Where there is greater traffic, light signal systems (LSS) can be used to appropriately manage traffic flow. Circumnavigations are much safer and more efficient than LSSs and would work well with the Radbahn.

Possible alternatives include prohibiting turning/crossing established paths, as is used with tram lines (Z209 ‘prescribed driving direction’), and setting up a one-block detour (Z590 StVO).
